On November 2002, the oil tank Prestige sent an SOS that soon became the starting point of one of the main environmental disasters in Europe. The oil spills lead into both a political crisis and a social confrontation. This article analyses the crisis’ coverage of four Spanish TV channels. By means of a quantitative content analysis and a discourse analysis, each channel’s agenda is rebuilt, mapping the corporate and informative strategies of each TV station. Crises are presented as periods when news production routines become accelerated, highlighting both the strengths and the weaknesses of daily journalism. Results underline the excessive salience attributed to live coverage, the obsession for quantifying news’ dimensions and the growing relevance attributed to the image, while crises are presented as strategic opportunities for TV channels in order to rethink their position in the market.

In this work I offer a brief overview of my doctoral thesis research, which is aimed at analyze the role of Information and Communication Technologies in the development of transnational bonds. On the basis of a data production device consisting of in-depth interviews, I have identified technological uses, presences, and appropriations through which transnational migrants manage to communicate and relate across distance, as well as the effects, dynamics and practices that characterize their transnational way of life. Practices such as the unfolding of technologized proximities, connected presence, affective work and care, allowed me to offer an account of the ways through which migrants get to be some places without really being there. In this articleI analize the prime theoretical arguments around the nationalism concept, from the modernist position, as well as the historic-culturalist position, and contrast them with the studies of specialists of mexican issues, to understand what has been said about mexican nationalism. At the very core of the debate, lies the State- nation concept, and it’s interference in the development of collective identities; also, cultura as an integration agent of those identities. From that contrast, I seek to dilucidate the way mexican nationalism was built, explain it’s contents and what’s behind the phenomenom.

In this paper I examine the representation of the feminine archetype in Diego Rivera´s murals, considering not just his learned use of traditional allegorical symbols, but also, his personal experiences, in particular those in regard to filial love, maternity/paternity, and his very complex amorous relationships with some outstanding women of his time, which in a more or less conscious way, the artist intertwined with extraordinary lyrical imagination in his ample and complex iconographic programs. I conclude that for Rivera, muralism was not only an instrument of political action, such as it is normally recognized by specialized literature, but also, an opportunity to elaborate personal themes, in which paradoxically he reaches a greater degree of universality and transcendence that the one which characterizes his history paintings.

The aim of this article is to specify several functions of bibliotherapies, focusing the case of self-help books. By the analysis of a sample of 60 books, we propose a number of parameters to classify self-help as a specific discursive genre. That characterisation involves theme, composition structures and literary style, all typical of the genre. The examination of self-help discursive devices enables to understand their performance on discomforms in subjectivty.  Sef-help books are answers imbuid both in hegemonic ideology and in common sense that characterize this period. In this way, its historical developement has had different stages recognizables by the explicit objectives of the books, the foundations of their efficacy and the fields to which their influence is restrincted. The systematization of this evolution –that this article presents- makes easier to understand the eclectisism of this contemporary phenomenom.
